An insurance policy is a special form of contract. Each State has passed laws, and adopted regulations, impacting many types of insurance coverage which insurance companies may offer for sale. Questions frequently arise as to whether a policy of insurance covers a loss. For example, a business owner may wish to know if the policies in place cover a certain type of risk. Insurance policy language is often unclear and answering this question requires examining a variety of legal sources. The question of whether a loss is covered frequently comes up after an insured has suffered a loss. Litigation of this issue is sometimes referred to as a “Coverage Dispute.”
